Poverty pimping?

The scene is Oakland, California (where incidentally, I lived for a short while last year), but the underlying themes apply just as readily to disadvantaged communities anywhere.  A fascinating reflection on what it means to work in the not-for-profit sector; can some of us indeed be described as "poverty pimps"?  An interesting discussion follows.
