I just found out that Educate Together (ET) will be opening three new schools over the next two years. ET provides child-centred, co-educational, multi-denominational and democratically run primary schools throughout Ireland. The ET model offers an alternative form of education that is highly suitable for the needs of modern Irish society. My children attend Rathfarnham Educate Together National School and I am actively involved both with the Parents' Association and the Board of Management (on which I serve as the female parent rep, with a specific remit for policy development). Both the children and I love the school. I was thrilled to hear the news that families in Blanchardstown West, Mulhuddart and Ashbourne will soon be able to benefit from an ET education. I hope this signals a confidence in ET which will lead to the eventual establishment of ET secondary schools. Children deserve it.
