In pursuit of happiness

31st March 2011

Are you happy?  Do you want to be more happy?  Do you feel society could be happier? Enter Action for Happiness, a new 'global movement' due to be launched in a fortnight in London.  It would be easy to shrug it off as naive and idealistic, but the founders are by no means lightweights and their tenets makes sense.  As our incomes have increased, our level of happiness has not; in fact it has decreased.  Something is not right.

I have always been fascinated by this subject.  How can people who, on the face of it, have so much going for them, often be so much sadder and dispirited than those whose living conditions are blatantly more challenging?  How can you accurately measure happiness and well-being?   Is happiness an achievable goal in any case?

So, I have joined the movement (with thanks to a friend for the original tip-off) and suggest you check it out too.
