End of year reflections

20th December 2011

My 2011. The year I returned from a six-month sabbatical in California.  The year I declined the opportunity to move back to London.  The year I gladly settled back into an ever-changing Ireland.  The year I threw myself back into policy development for my sons' school.  The year I trained in SROI.  The year I began tweeting.  The year in which I made so many interesting new contacts.   The year I gladly undertook contracts with former clients (Care Alliance Ireland, Free Legal Advice CentresThe Wheel, West Limerick Resources) and welcomed new ones (Focus Ireland, (ISC)2, Public Affairs Ireland).  The year I once again worked in partnership with associates Ciara, Orlagh and Sheila.  The year of desk research, questionnaire surveys, facilitated sessions, and above all, stakeholder interviews.  The year of inevitable peaks and troughs that signify a freelancer's life.

It has been an eventful and ultimately fulfilling year.  2012 is already full of promise.  In the meantime, I am very much looking forward to a break from it all, starting this Friday.  This year, in lieu of Christmas cards,  I have made a donation to Educate Together towards the provision of child-centred, co-educational, multi-denominational and democratic education at primary and, hopefully, second-level education throughout Ireland.

I wish you a happy and restful holiday season and look forward to catching up in the new year.
