Busy times ...

15th July 2011

But not too busy for a quick blog at the end of a Friday afternoon!

Everyone always tells me that the summer is a quiet time within the community and voluntary sector, but I have never yet found this to be so.  Sure, it's hard to get hold of people, as many take annual leave around this time of year.  Trying to schedule meetings, interviews, focus groups and the like is more difficult than at other times, but I have always found that there is plenty of other work to be done.

You know that old adage about waiting for ages for a bus? Well, that is what it has been like for Whitebarn Consulting of late. I came back from the USA in January of this year to two 'full-on' contracts.  I worked with Orlagh O'Farrell to evaluate FLAC's PILA project and with Sheila Cahill to prepare an evaluation framework and undertake baseline research for the Primary Health Care Project for Travellers In West Limerick.  Then things went decidedly quiet for a while ...

And then suddenly, a convoy of buses came along!  I am currently evaluating The Wheel's Collaborate to Innovate project, working with Ciara Murray on an evaluation of Focus Ireland's LEAP programme, and developing a course for Public Affairs Ireland on outcome and impact measurement (again with Sheila Cahill).  There are a few more exciting projects in the pipeline.

At the same time, I am actively trying to find organisations that are interested in pursuing Social Return On Investment (SROI) as a measurement tool, developing policies on assessment and special educational needs for Rathfarnham Educate Together National School, and doing as much 'networking' (I don't like that word!) as I can, of both the face-to-face and virtual kind.  Oh, and trying to keep two active boys occupied during their summer holiday.

What's keeping you busy?
